So when our house was renovated, the old doorbell system was removed and was replaced with a wireless system. The wireless part works fine, but the buttons that it came with aren’t the prettiest things. More importantly, the adhesive strips that it come with don’t stick to the wood that well. To solve this, my mom bought a new doorbell button: IMG_1025

The only problem with that button is that it is meant for a wired doorbell. The wireless doorbell is just a transmitter hooked up to a button though, so if you replace the little button with the big button, then the transmitter shouldn’t know or care that the button is different.

To begin, I took apart the old button which was pretty easy. With the battery out, it only takes one screw to disassemble it. IMG_1023 If you look at the back of the circuit board, you can see the button on the PCB. IMG_1024 When you press the 4-lead buttons, it connects the sides together. On the new doorbell, there are just two outputs which get connected together. To attach the new button then, I soldered wires to the side of the button and screwed those into the new button as shown: IMG_1026

With it all back together, it looks like this: IMG_1027

Now the doorbell can be properly screwed into the wood meaning it won’t fall off anymore. It also happens to look a lot better than the cheap plastic buttons the kit came with.
